We are thrilled to celebrate the sold-out success of our opening concert last Friday, marking the start of Tonhain Kollektiv’s Season 2 – RESIST! The Sound of Defiance.
The concert, Soundtrack of the Resistance, featured works created under conditions of oppression and conflict, each expressing resistance in unique and profound ways.
We are delighted to share the first review of the evening, published by Stadtrand Nachrichten: "The four musicians merged into a single organism, bound together by sound, breath, glances, and gestures. In this intimate space—neither chamber nor hall—the audience becomes part of the experience itself. The air seems to vibrate, drawing listeners into a state of total immersion that is as overwhelming as it is exhilarating.”

About Interlude: Hay que caminar
Luigi Nono’s groundbreaking duet “Hay Que Caminar” soñando (“One Must Walk” dreaming) turns music into a meditation on dedicating one’s life to social justice. Nono was committed to countless activist movements around the globe, and in writing this final piece the year before he died, he was inspired by a quote from Spanish author Antonio Machado: “Traveler, there are no ways, but we must walk”. According to the score, the two violinists are instructed to move through the hall as they play, creating a soundscape that is highly experiential and emotional. Before the performance, Vorstandsmitglied Luke Hsu will offer an introduction on Nono’s unique path as artist-activist and how this work serves as a reflection on his life.
Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins (1932), whose rapid-fire rhythmic dialogue and neo-Baroque influences contrast with the Nono, will round out the program. Prokofiev was no stranger to fighting for his voice to be heard: accused of formalism by Stalin’s regime, he was forced to adapt his compositional style to avoid censorship.
Performing these works will be Cosima Soulez Larivière, a regular guest with Tonhain Kollektiv, and Vorstandsmitglied Luke Hsu.
